Education:
After graduating from high school in Salzburg (AUT), Andreas Maislinger enrolled at the University of Salzburg for studies in Law as well as in Political Science in 1974. In 1977, he also took up studies in the History of Eastern Europe at the University of Vienna. Throughout the years that followed, his educational career included studies at universities in Frankfurt am Main (GFR), Berlin (GFR), Oslo (NOR), Lublin (POL), Erfurt (then GDR), and Prague (then CSSR) as well the the European College - Forum Alpbach (AUT) and the Salzburg Seminar in American Studies.
In 1980 he presented his doctoral thesis "Problems of Austrian Security Policy" at the the University of Salzburg.

Between September 1980 and April 1981, he volunteered for Aktion Sühnezeichen/Friedensdienste in Berlin (GFR) and the Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau (POL) which is a program similar to Gedenkdienst. Afterwards he did alternative service at the International Fellowship of Reconciliation in Vienna.

Further Academic Career:
Between 1982 and 1991, Andreas Maislinger was academic assistant at the University of Innsbruck (AUT). In 1986 he published an omnibus volume dealing with Costa Rica. In 1987 he was Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of New Orleans (USA) and worked also at the Humboldt-University in East-Berlin (then GDR) and the University of Linz. Involvement at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (IL) in 1988 and a Holocaust class at Yad Vashem (Jerusalem, IL) in 1990 followed. In 1992 he was involved in organizing the first German language Holocaust seminar at Yad Vashem.

Other:
Andreas Maislinger has been writing for the Jüdische Rundschau between 1992 and 1996. He has also been scholarly director of the Braunauer Zeitgeschichte-Tage since 1992. The same year he founded Verein Gedenkdienst. In 1998, he founded Verein für Dienste im Ausland, which continued to establish Gedenkdienst internship programs, but at the same time expanded its activities to other forms of alternative service abroad. In 1999, he founded and since then has been president of giftedchildren.net.
